Historically, America has followed European fashion and design trends by about two years. By America, I mean the big cities…New York, LA, Chicago. Austin was always few years behind those design meccas.
This is no longer
the case ~ at least with our clients!
Last October, I spent a month traveling in Germany, Austria, The Czech Republic and evenĀ lunched in Slovenia. The opportunity came through cherished clients who had purchased and planned to remodel an Austrian apartment overlooking Wolfgansea and the Alps. My task was to collaborate with the architect and contractors to insure that the American standards my clients were accustomed to would be incorporated into the new design.
We did a lot of shopping to source products for their home. Displays were awash in the velvety color Peacock. Every store window, from housewares to clothing, featured products in this vibrant blue, often complimented with fuchsia and lime. If I’d had a margarita in hand, I could have just as easily been at one of Austin’s Tex-Mex eateries!

In Prague we sourced vivid fabrics and textured wall covering in Roche Bobois. In Vienna were dazzled by the Swarovski crystal lighting and jewelry. Munich seemed more accessible and playful, with trendy stores like Kartel.
I was pleased to discover the furniture and lighting on display in these posh showrooms were familiar to me! I was proud that we had already specified many of them in our projects…..
I am talking YOUR HOME
S right here in Austin!!
So here we sit, in our little utopia, still not a major city but no longer a small town . We have the world at our fingertips ~ and we embrace it!
